Team Startup Activities
After tryouts and the evaluations, all participants in the tryouts will be contacted by their new coach. For children moving from one team to another, both the child's old coach and the child's new coach will contact the child and the family.
The schedule for these announcements is set by the village, but is usually either the last week of school, or the last day of school.
Once your child is notified of his/her team assignment, there are new responsibilities for both the child and the parent:
- You must order a uniform for your child - your coach will tell you what components you are required to order. Please see our uniform page for more information.
- You may need to register online (if you have not already done so).
- If you have not yet done so, you will need to provide a copy of your child's birth certificate or passport if your child has not played in the Westchester Youth Soccer League previously. Contact your coach if you have any questions about this.
- If you have not yet done so, you will need to complete the US Youth Soccer medical release form and give it to your coach.
- If you have not yet done so, you will need to provide to your coach a headshot picture of your child where the child's facial features are clear, but the "head" itself should be approximately 1 inch by 1 inch. A 2x3 or 3x5 school photo works very well. Please write your child's name and on the photo on the reverse side of the picture BEHIND THE HEAD.
- At the end of the summer, you will pay "dues" to your coach (or a designated manager of the team). These dues cover trainers, tournament entry fees, equipment and other expenses as defined by your coach. These dues are IN ADDITION to fees that you pay to register your child on a team with the WYSL.
These items are designed to help ensure your child's safety and to verify that no illegal substitutions or children of invalid ages are playing on teams. You need to submit all paperwork on time, because your paperwork must be personally taken to the WYSL headquarters to complete the registration for every child in the WYSL.
